Liberty Discussion is a program designed to engage and inform the core members on the ideas of market economy and classical liberal ideas. Discussions are made on contemporary issues (local or national) through open market perspective. The article is selected and shared within the members to prepare oneself for the program.
On April 2, 2022 Bikalpa an Alternative organized Liberty Discussion at Wake Cup café to discuss the article, ‘Understanding Liberty ‘.
The discussion began with welcoming all the participants and insights about the bi-weekly liberty discussion. During an in-house discussion, participants opined on a wide range of issues concerning individual freedom, Political Freedom, Economic Freedom, Entrepreneurship, innovation, and a Free society since most participants were new to this discussion. The discussion started with understanding the meaning of Liberty Participants mentioned that Liberty means the right to do anything without harming other individual rights under the rule of law.
During the discussion, Mr. Basanta Adhikari and Mr sarwagya Raj Pandey opined on different aspects of Liberty and their importance in our life to the participants. The participants also agreed with the opinion that since individuals think and not societies or collectives as a whole, it is essential to let people define their paths rather than force or urge everyone to follow a tried and tested process. Mr. Basanta Adhiakri also placed different examples of Economic Freedom and talked about Negative and Positive Liberty. The discussion further covered the government’s responsibilities on protecting individual rights, their liberty, and securing their property rights. However, participants lamented that the current national and political scene has effectively sidelined the people’s economic freedom and individual rights.
