Celebrating SDGs Week 2021 in Biratnagar

Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) is a blueprint designed by the UN in 2015 to bring globally common understanding on development issues by categorizing various global development issues into 17 specific goals with clear indicators to measure.  As this year, the UN globally celebrated SDG week from 21 September to -27 September 2021 with Global Theme: #TurnItAroundfora healthy, green, and just recovery and keep the promise of the SDGs.

On 26 September 2021, Bikalpa an Alternative celebrated SDGs week at Biratnagar by organizing SDGs orientation program and Street Campaign on a national theme of” Greater recovery and vaccination for all.”. The objective of the program first of all was to Sensitize young people on SDG and to Pressurize the government to be more accountable to ensure vaccination for all citizens as soon as possible. More than 60 youth from diverse sector attended the program.

Program started with short introductions and objective sharing by facilitator suman Rai. Then Mr. Sarwagya Raj Pandey presented his presentation on SDGs. His presentation content were on SDGs history, definition, process on how SDGs work  explaining. His presentation also covered a short exercise for planning SDGs strategy in a project using problem tree analysis tools.

After the presentation on SDGs and Its Importance, chief guest Mr. Parnay Raj Sharma (UNDP plgsp Team Leader) where he firstly appreciated Bikalpa for marking SDGs celebration week and mentioned his thanks for honoring him as a chief guest. He briefly shared about SDGs situation in Nepal and significance of SDGs in context of Nepal. He concluded his speech by highlighting meaningful work of young people and youth-led groups that will take Nepal forward to achieve SDGs Goal.

Following the session, Bikalpa inhouse production video documentary was screened on the issue of COVID -19 lockdown and its impact on the livelihood. Following the screening different perceptive of participants where taken on watched video.  The formal indoor program ended with having hi-tea at 3:00 pm.  The program was held at the premises of Hotel Shree Krishna.

Street Campaign at Traffic chowk on Theme “Greater recovery and vaccination for all.”

After completion of short interaction program about SDGs, all the participants gather at venue Traffic chowk.  on the road side participants formed a human chain and displayed a message on pla-card for one hour on the issue of COVID vaccine with different slogans that encourage people to get immunization and make government accountable to ensure vaccine for all. Mean while COVID vaccine pre-registration help booth was also set up to inform the passers-by about the online registration process of Covid -Vaccine through which volunteer distributed about 500 pre-registration pamphlets during the campaign hour. Street campaign was end with the thanks speech of Mr Basanta Adhikari at 4:30 pm.
