Liberty Discussion on ‘State Capitalism and Free market’

Liberty Discussion is a program designed to engage and inform the core members on the ideas of market economy and classical liberal ideas. Discussions are made on contemporary issues (local or national) through open market perspective. The article is selected and shared within the members to prepare oneself for the program. The program is organized at the venue of Bikalpa – an Alternative on every alternative Saturday (twice a month).
The Liberty discussion session for the month of April was held on 17th April 2021 at Dolphin Education Consultancy.

As the discussion began, The session started with understanding the meaning of ‘State Capitalism and Free market’ and then went into the details of how they are formed, exist, and work in the global market. We also talked about The state capitalist model in China, where the state is very much at the center of things during the discussion. Governments step in to economic matters in one way or another. They own large and essential segments of the economy.
In state capitalism, the government owns a large sector of State enterprises favored by overbearing bureaucrats, which leads to a monopoly in the market. Moving forward, the discussion also raised the question among the participants regarding the role of the state in state capitalism and the Free market economy. On the contrary, Some participants argued which system works better for the future of the economy. They opined that State capitalism is not the solution. The state capitalists should have a market reform and deregulate to free up entrepreneurship and the better rule of law.
