Youth in Policy and Governance Fellowship Launch Program at province 1.

On 6th December 2022, Bikalpa an Alternative, in collaboration with Pokhara Research Centre and with the support of US embassy Nepal, hosted A launching event of the “Youth in Policy and Governance Fellowship Program 2022/23” for Province 1 here in Biratnagar at Hotel Shree Krishna. YPG Fellowship is a year-long, unique fellowship program where youths learn about lawmaking, public policy, and governance through training, mentorship, and one-to-one involvement/collaboration with members of the provincial assembly as knowledge assistance. 

The program has already occurred in Gandaki province (Pokhara) and Karnali Province ( Surkhet). The objective of the YPG fellowship program is to “To strength Federalism in Nepal” through youth engagement in the public policy-making process and promoting good governance at Provincial Level.”

The program’s opening session started with welcoming and introducing the guest from the Pokhara Research Centre. Mr. Suman Rai from Bikalpa welcomed and introduced Mr. Barun Chettri and Saurav Wagle to all the attendees. After that, the session was handed over to Barum Chettri for his presentation about the program. He began his presentation by emphasizing the significance of the Fellowship program. During his presentation, he highlighted the mission, vision, YPG beliefs, Program module, what youth will get, curriculum module, and long-run engagement program. He further shared his story as a graduate of this program and showed the participants how such programs benefit the youth by enhancing their leadership skills and adding value to their careers. 

The session wrapped up with a series of questions by the attendees, which Mr. Saurav Wagle duly answered. Mr wagle also encouraged attendees to Apply for the Fellowship program and share it with their friends. The session was quite informative and engaging to the audience. The program finally ended with tea and snacks and networking with each other. 81 attendees participated in the program.  The program news event were also covered on local media Bikalpa Khabar and our Biratnagar.
