Liberty Discussion on ““Strategies for achieving poverty”

Liberty Discussion is a program designed to engage and inform the core members on the ideas of market economy and classical liberal ideas. Discussions are made on contemporary issues (local or national) through open market perspective. The article is selected and shared within the members to prepare oneself for the program. The program is organized at the venue of Bikalpa – an Alternative on every alternative Saturday (twice a month).

Bikalpa an Alternative organized online “Liberty Discussion” series in collaboration with Network For Free Society on the topic “Strategies for achieving poverty” on 08 August 2020. The distinguished participants in the discussion were from different backgrounds. The discussion was moderated by Mr. Suman Rai while the concluding remarks were given by Mr. Sarwagya Raj Pandey.

We engaged with the core members of Liberty discussion online attempting to understand How good intended policies of government won’t work in the long run in the economy. The discussion started with following some reading regarding the Article. Participant’s stated that policy is an important factor that has a huge impact on the socio-economic life of the public.  Due to the bridge of the gap between knowledge and policy in government, their good intention doesn’t translate to good policy. The argument furthered went to there are seen and unseen part in the policy. The unseen part in public policy making is multiple players are driven by their self-interest who acts accordingly which tends to affect public policy in the long run.

The discussion session also touched on the role Market economy and role of the Government. Participants responded when the government starts to control all the things then there is trajectory. Every individual should be allowed free to work and innovate in the market. The government should act as the role of the monitor not as a Powerful dictator. The collectivist policy doesn’t work. Participant’s also talked about a fault in the capitalist system that is called a knowledge problem.  No person can know everything. So, we should leave it to the market forces. It was well-discussed talk from different dimensions about the provided topic during the discussion.
