Liberty Discussion is a program designed to engage and inform the core members on the ideas of market economy and classical liberal ideas. Discussions are made on contemporary issues (local or national) through open market perspective. The article is selected and shared within the members to prepare oneself for the program. The program is organized at the venue of Bikalpa – an Alternative on every alternative Saturday (twice a month).
Bikalpa, an Alternative, organized online “Liberty Discussion” on 3rd July 2021 . The discussion for topic was titled on ”“Freedom or Equality “. Around 15 participants attended the session through Zoom Meeting.
The discussion session started with the Importance of Freedom in our life from an economics and political perspective. Participants floated diverse opinions. Some stated that freedom is a state of being, a right granted by society to act according to one’s desire within the rules set forth by that society. So, both economic and political freedom co-exist in society. Considering the discussion, other participants shared that there should be equal opportunity and freedom for all. While unless a country is economically free, there would be no social growth. Also , Developing nations like us should focus on generating consistent policies that can strengthen economic freedom.
The discussion further stemmed into how economically free countries are doing better than non-Economic free countries. Some other participants argued the difference in political and economic system matters for the development of the country. Political and economic freedom has to do with what we call a “level playing field”.
