Friday Discussion on The Problem of Price Control

Friday Discussion is a two hour discussion program held every alternative Friday twice a month from 4:30 pm onward at Namaskar Hotel, Biratnagar. The program is organized to engage core members and new comers who are interested on the issue and ideas of Liberty, Public policy and Political economy. Discussions are made on contemporary issues (local or national) through free market perspective. Article is selected and shared within the members to prepare before coming to the program.

On this series, discussion was made on the Article of “The problem of Price Control”, where 10 numbers of part to discuss their views. The program is organized to engage core members and new comers who are interested on the issue and ideas of liberty, public policy and political economy. It was hot and live discussion where participants discussed on The problem of Price Control.

An hourly discussion was revolved around the Should Government control the price or it should be left out to the Market Choice. Price control is important because otherwise there would be monopoly in the market. The manufacturers keep the price high because they want to earn more profit. The government should fix the price according to goods. There would be bridge gap between rich and poor. In order to control the market monopoly. it is necessary for government to control the price.

On the contrary to this Some Argued by saying when government control the price then there is regulatory authority that defines the price. That is constant in the market but according to the demand and supply it is not constant and it is arbitrary. Governments don’t know how many things are constant and how many things are arbitrary. Government should intervene when there is outer intervention.

Putting their forth about argument Finally the discussion was concluded if government fixes the price then company may get in the losses and they will slowly lower down the production level. So it is better to control the price in Alternate way.

The program was held on 25th September 2015 from 4:45 pm onward. Discussion was very helpful to understand about the problem of price control and its benefits for the developing countries like Nepal. Program was ended in 6:15 pm.
