Bikalpa Fellowship Orientation Program

 

Bikalpa an Alternative in collaboration with Centre for Private Enterprise (CIPE), organized an online orientation program on “Bikalpa Fellowship Program” at 25th, 26th September and 2nd October 2020. Bikalpa fellowship is a knowledge-based capacity building program where students can enroll and benefit from networking and participate in various discussions, training, workshops, and extracurricular activities year-round. Besides this, students will gain knowledge, certificate, internship, campaigning & volunteering opportunities, and a platform to enhance their capacity. The curriculum values on Individual and Economic Freedom, Entrepreneurship, Public policy, Accountability, and Civic leadership will help them educate beyond their textbook.

As part of the program, we received 250 applications from applicants from all over the Nepal. Among them, we selected 125 applicants from Morang district and 105 from other districts respectively for the orientation program of the Bikalpa Fellowship program. Out of which 32 in a first orientation, 47 in a second orientation and 44 in third orientation attended the program. In total, we had 123 participants.

The program began with a presentation by Mr. Basanta Adhikari Director of Bikalpa an Alternative who gave a brief introduction about the context of program. During his talk he shared about Bikalpa and Its Mission Vision, Economic freedom Campaign, Bikalpa Fellowship program, Youth and Social Responsibility.

 

The third orientation program was scheduled for other provinces applicants. 44 participant’s from the different districts attended the program. The program began with a presentation by Mr. Basanta Adhikari, Director of Bikalpa, an Alternative, who briefly introduced the program’s context. He shared Bikalpa’s mission, vision, Economic freedom Campaign, Bikalpa Fellowship program, Youth, and Social Responsibility during his presentation.

In his session, he introduced participants to how the idea of Bikalpa developed and its ongoing activities in Province 1 Biratnagar. He also shared why it is essential to raise voices and sensitize the public about the economic and public policy issues. While sharing about the Economic freedom campaign, he stated four key themes of the Campaign, namely;

  • Freedom to enterprise
  • Rule of Law and Security of Life and Property
  • Freedom of Choice and Competition
  • Accountable and Limited Government.

He also encouraged participants to join the campaign activities soon.  He further explained the Bikalpa fellowship program and the opportunities the students would be exposed to through the fellowship.

In concluding remarks, he stressed that the Youths are potential change makers of society and are Responsible and Accountable for the community. “We should take the initiative to bring change in society,” he concluded. Overall, the interaction discussion program was very enriching and exciting, and the speaker engaged with the audience on a few general queries regarding the program.
