Liberty Filmmaking Workshop Movie Screening- Premier Show Biratnagar 2021

Bikalpa, an Alternative, organized the “Movie Screening- Premier Show,” of its recently concluded “Liberty Filmmaking Workshop” at the Himalaya Darshan College on October 11, 2021. Mr. Basanta Adhikari moderated the program which was attended by guests from various sectors, Liberty Filmmaking Workshop participants and the cast and crew of the 4 short films showcased during the event.

 

The guest among the audience included: Dinesh Shrestha (President, Anti-Corruption Movement), Dr. Sandesh Dass Shrestha (Associate Professor, Purwanchal University), Rakesh Suruna (Former Vice-President of Chamber of Industries), Bheshraj Pokhrel (Director, Himalaya Darshan College), Bharat Sapkota (Campus Chief, Himalaya Darshan College), Abhinayak Malla (Managing Director, Malla Enterprise), Rewati Raman Dhakal (President of NCPD), Bishal Rai (Co-founder, NCPD), Saihainsha Siddique (Director, Nepal Times), and Sabin Simon Ghimire (Founder, Kalo Parda Online) among others.

During the premiere show, Four movies made by the graduates of the Liberty Filmmaking Workshop were screened.

Freedom of Expression (अभिव्यत्ति)

Abhibyakti (Freedom of Expression) is based on Freedom of Speech. The story revolves around an aspiring journalist, Sachin, who tries to publish the truth behind JP Yadav, a wicked politician. The movie is inspired by the growing intolerance towards freedom of expression and the impunity that follows.

Mal Practices (बेथिति)

Bethiti is a reflection of the situations faced by the common Nepali during the Covid crisis. It focuses on the malpractices during a public health crisis, the effects of weak governance on small private businesses, and the struggles lower-economy generating families had to go through during the time.

 

Competition (प्रतिस्पर्धा)

Pratispardha explores the doing business-related issues. The movie revolves around an innovator determined to convert his innovation into a commercial venture but faces societal and system hurdles. The film also highlights the hardship of entrepreneurs going through bureaucratic hassles during the inception of the business.

 

Compulsion (बाध्यता)

The fourth movie focuses on livelihood issue of the poor during the Covid-19 lockdown. The film highlights the story of a low-income family who has to face many challenges during the Lockdown and how difficult circumstances forces them to go to take risk for survival.

After showcasing each movie, the crew members were provided the stage to introduced themselves and shared their film-making experiences. Also, graduates and artists were felicitated with certificates and token of love by the esteemed guests.

 

Mr. Bhesraj Pokhrel, Director of Himalaya Darshan expressed his pleasure in hosting the program at their college and stated that the administration was enthusiastic to collaborate in such programs and thanked Bikalpa for the extraordinary event. Also, Dr. Sandesh Dass Shrestha, Associate professor at Purwanchal University, appreciated the program and noted that the movies depicted reality of the society.

Different local media personalities were also present at the program. Local and national media covered the event and interviewed the artists and crew members about their experiences. Various local and national media also covered the program. The program was attended by over 130 attendees during the screening.
