Liberty Discussion on “Net Neutrality”

Liberty Discussion is a program designed to engage and inform the core members on the ideas of free market economy and classical liberal ideas. Discussions are made on the contemporary issues (local or national) through free market perspective. Article is selected and shared within the members to prepare oneself for the program. The program is organized at the venue of Graduate Coach Biratnagar on every alternative Saturday (twice a month).

The members of the Liberty Discussion Group sat down at Graduate Coach, on the 25th March 2017 to discuss on the topic “Net Neutrality”

During the discussion the participants put forth their opinion regarding the topic. One of the participant shared since internet has now become a global medium to communicate, educate, entertain, and engage in the world. So, no one can lay any of ownership or control on who can access information and at what speed. However, Freedom of  expression is one of   the pillars of modern democracy. We have right to access information, fairly, freely and without discrimination. Internet is open so the ISP’s service should not discriminate against websites. It will hamper the freedom of choice. Also participant put remarks that for what purpose the internet service was found it is not going toward that direction. Other participant argued on the business model that the company are creating for the service of the public.
