Bikalpa an Alternative organized its Liberty Discussion Series on the topic “Globalization & Trade ” on 19th   December 2020. This week’s content of the article was quite provocative and conventional where diverse opinions were presented by participants.

The discussion session was started by throwing lights on globalization’s good side. The participants pointed out that globalization has created new opportunities, new ideas and open new markets that an entrepreneur may not have had in their home country.  Globalization has helped to promote economic growth, development, and poverty reduction in developing countries.

Furthermore, other participants put their views, saying opening up their economies to the global economy developing countries has developed competitive advantages in the manufacture of certain products. In recent decades, no country has achieved economic success in terms of substantial increases in living standards for its people without being open to the rest of the world.

Other participants have mixed views regarding the discussion and argued that globalization has led to growing income inequality or harm to the environment. So, we should also focus on ecology, not only the economy.  Participants cited examples of Nepal regarding the advantages and disadvantages of globalization and discussed during the session.

Overall, the participants also shared their valid views on the topic. The session resulted in a fruitful and impassioned discussion.
