Liberty Discussion is a program designed to engage and inform the core members on the ideas of market economy and classical liberal ideas. Discussions are made on contemporary issues (local or national) through open market perspective. The article is selected and shared within the members to prepare oneself for the program. The program is organized at the venue of Bikalpa – an Alternative on every alternative Saturday (twice a month).

Bikalpa, an Alternative, organized online “Liberty Discussion” on 19th June 2021 . The discussion for topic was titled on “How Cronyism hurts the nation Economy? ”. Around 15  participants attended the session through Zoom Meeting.

The discussion was centered around the topic “How cronyism hurts the Economy. “The participants presented their opinion by saying, “Cronyism is about using one’s position to give special favors to those who are part of their inner circle.” cronyism is the creation of regulations that benefit favored companies while impacting their competitors. Hence, Crony capitalism is when some businesses with influence in government use the government to violate other people’s property rights for their benefit. They use state power to operate for protective barriers and regulate the Economy to protect businesses from competition.
During the discussion, Some participants shared their views on the current trends of the Nepalese Market. They discussed how the Nepalese Market is delved into the hand of Cronies in recent times. Participants argued that since we are a developing country and our Market is not free. One of the greatest dangers to the growth of developing countries is the middle-income trap, where crony capitalism creates oligarchies that slow down growth. It was an engaging and interactive session filled with critical insights.
