Liberty Discussion on “Ensuring People sovereignty”

Liberty Discussion is a program designed to engage and inform the core members on the ideas of market economy and classical liberal ideas. Discussions are made on contemporary issues (local or national) through open market perspective. The article is selected and shared within the members to prepare oneself for the program. The program is organized at the venue of Bikalpa – an Alternative on every alternative Saturday (twice a month).

Bikalpa, an Alternative, organized Liberty Discussion session on 29th October 2021.. The discussion for topic was titled on  “Ensuring People sovereignty” .Around 18 participants attended the session through Zoom Meeting.

The discussion began with welcome remarks of Mr Basanta Adhikari, Research Fellow (International who welcomed the Guest Speaker Shital Green Dahal and introduced about him to the participants. The program was followed by the formal discussion led by Shital Green Sir through his Presentation, talking about What was democracy in the past from its inception in Greek and Roman cities? Nation was will of the people and everyone had access to the political space. One was required to follow the law he himself participated to write. Whatever happened to democracy in the last 2 millenniums? What is democracy now? De-democratization and state sovereignty have taken away people’s sovereignty. What should be democracy in the future? Re-democratize democracy by way of creating a true democratic citizen.

During his presentation he raised very intriguing arguments for complex issues of Nature of State, History present and Past and Future of Democracy. He also emphasized on how State is taking People Sovereignty and what can be done to revamp it.  During the discussion A healthy dialogue between participants also followed the session. Participants gave their varied opinions on the idea of Mercanlisisn and Free Market the participants also raises question and  their arguments regarding the democracy .
