The program is organized at the venue of Bikalpa – an Alternative on every alternative Saturday (twice a month).

On 3rd November, 2018, the members of Liberty Discussion Group sat down at Bikalpa Office to discuss the article ‘Is Liberty Asian Value.

We continue with our discussion with focus on liberty. As we know the word liberty may differ according to geographical area but it essence remains the same. “To enjoy liberty means not being subjected to the arbitrary will of another, but to be governed by the law, that is, by rules that are applicable to all and that guarantee to all the right to follow their own wills in those matters regarding their own property”. “Laws, where there is no Law, there is no Freedom. For Liberty is to be free from Restraint and Violence from others; which cannot be, where there is no Law:” This thing is universally applicable for all the human freedom.

During the course of the discussion the participants agreed in that the meaning of Liberty is also Asian Value. Where, we also had small thoughtful discussion on Lao Tzu philosophy of classical Liberalism.  Since, the philosophy of the liberty is composed of Asian values. Some of the participants also argued that, in the political and economic discourse of Nepal, the word liberal or liberty might sound like a popular word but it is also one of the most derided. The citizens are still far behind of their rights. The liberals rarely find its voice on the political and Economic Spectrum.
