Biratnagar Citizens Campaign Bimonthly Meeting

The Biratnagar Citizen Campaign organized its meeting on 12th April 2025 at the premises of Bikalpa an alternative. As per the decision made in the last meeting, campaign members have agreed to convene every 15 days to discuss the further agenda of Biratnagar and the program direction. In that meeting, around 15 people from diverse backgrounds were gathered together. Most were YPE and Bikalpa Fellows, and some were from media backgrounds, business sectors, and social campaigns.

The session commenced with a warm welcome from Mr. Saroj Karki, who greeted all attendees and emphasized the importance of the gathering. He outlined the program’s purpose, highlighting the significance of fostering dialogue, collective problem-solving, and structured planning for the Biratnagar Citizen Campaign’s future. Mr. Karki asked the participants to give an introduction, mentioning what kind of activities the Biratnagar Citizen Campaign should bring in, setting the tone for an interactive and productive meeting.

The views started with a lack of economic opportunities in Biratnagar, followed by unnecessary fare at parking in the Biratnagar airport, similarly, a lack of road construction in the crowded place, a weakening education system, a lack of skills among youth, and unemployment.

Following this, Participants discussed the solutions to these problems and what action can be taken in the initial phase. Mr. Nirmal Tamang presented some solutions, like filing RTI on road construction and Airport parking issues, whereas conducting an interaction program for youths with entrepreneurs to understand the job market. Mr. Saroj Karki, Mr. Rajan Yadav, Mr. Abhinayak Malla, and Mr. Nirmal Karki took the responsibility to guide YPE and Bikalpa Fellows to file RTI and conduct other essential activities. Similarly, YPE fellow, Prem Shah, took the responsibility to file RTI at the Airport for parking issues, and YPE Fellow, Niraj Sah, took responsibility to file RTI for road issue of ward no 8. Also, Ranu Sah took responsibility to file RTI for road issues of ward no 14 along with Bikalpa Fellow Siwani Chettri. Participants fixed the date to file the RTI to solve the issues, and ended the discussion.
