Liberty Discussion on “Socialism or Capitalism”

Liberty Discussion is a program designed to engage and inform the core members on the ideas of free market economy and classical liberal ideas. Discussions are made on the contemporary issues (local or national) through free market perspective. Article is selected and shared within the members to prepare oneself for the program. The program is organized at the venue of Graduate Coach Biratnagar on every alternative Saturday (twice a month).

The members of the Liberty Discussion Group sat down at Graduate Coach, on the 20th May 2017 to discuss on the topic “Socialism or Capitalism”

As we know the world is at edge of socialism and capitalism. We haven’t remain untouched by the wave. In May 20, 2017, members of Liberty Discussion Group came together yet again to discuss over one of the most heated topics Socialism or Capitalism. The discussion kicked off with some deliberation over what is socialism and capitalism? What does actually it means? How does government functions in this system? The discussion started with one of the member highlighting the socialism a way to progress. Stating that capitalism had created the wealth gap between richest people in the world and the poorest due to which inequality is raising in society. In capitalism economic system where the means of production are owned by private individuals. It had also affected in the demand and supply of economy. Some members argued that before talking about capitalism we need to understand about it. There are different versions of Capitalism. It is imperative to understand that there is good capitalism and bad capitalism. Under good capitalism, it is the government’s job by enforcing laws and regulations to make sure there is a level playing field for privately-run companies. Another form of capitalism “Crony capitalism”, which is the form of capitalism where wealthy corporations and politicians tie up to abuse power and wealth for each other’s vested interests, is bad and create rising income disparity among the citizens. During the discussion overwhelming number of opinion were articulated in the program which came to end at 5:45 pm
