Liberty Discussion on Price Control

Liberty Discussion is a program designed to engage and inform the core members on the ideas of free market economy and classical liberal ideas. Discussions are made on the contemporary issues (local or national) through free market perspective. Article is selected and shared within the members to prepare oneself for the program. The program is organized at the venue of Graduate Coach Biratnagar on every alternative Saturday (twice a month).

The members of the Liberty Discussion Group sat down at Graduate Coach, on the 16th Sep 2017 to discuss on the topic “Price Control“.

In the discussion participants engaged in interesting conversations as to what they found intriguing about the articles. Some participant stand on the point that price control is not good but government should check on pricing of the commodity. While some members said that, in market people are free to choose their good. Market operates in voluntary exchange and free will to trade. When government tries to control the price, then there is coercion.

Price control is a form of public theft. In the name of “the public good,” the economic consequence of government price control is economic disruption. Relating to it: The incident which took place in Kathmandu Durbar Marg. It was just populist act by politicians and abuse of power for his vested interest. It is also hallmark of an immoral society. There should be basic understating about economic order in the society. Some others argued that, these act are also responsible for major obstacles in market for growth and development. It also creates hurdles for people to kick start their own enterprise. It is important for our Judiciary system to make law and policy that guarantee economic freedom for the people of Nepal.
