Liberty Discussion is a program designed to engage and inform the core members on the ideas of market economy and classical liberal ideas. Discussions are made on contemporary issues (local or national) through open market perspective. The article is selected and shared within the members to prepare oneself for the program. The program is organized in collaboration with Network for free Society at the venue of Bikalpa – an Alternative on every alternative Saturday (twice a month).
On, Saturday, 7 March 2020 regular participants gathered on the Bikalpa office for the regular formal Liberty Discussion. The discussion was titled in Article “Why Economic Freedom Matters”
During the interactive discussion, the participants emphasized the importance of economic and political freedom. Political and economic freedom are the two sides of the same coin. Without economic freedom, political freedom can’t be achieved. Economic freedom is a core development for every individual growth. Participants discussed the issues of economic freedom in Nepal and suggested what reforms need to be put in the forefront for the economic growth and welfare of people. Some other Participants expressed we have political freedom but there is a lot of barrier on economic freedom. The government should focus on high potential sectors and support for small service businesses to work on entrepreneurial development for economic growth. The discussion also revolved around the Ideas of How to achieve economic freedom put forward on the role of government and the role of citizens in making it possible. The session resulted in a fruitful and impassioned discussion.
