Liberty Discussion is a program designed to engage and inform the core members on the ideas of market economy and classical liberal ideas. Discussions are made on the contemporary issues (local or national) through open market perspective. The article is selected and shared within the members to prepare oneself for the program. The program is organized at the venue of Bikalpa – an Alternative on every alternative Saturday (twice a month).

On, Saturday, 6 July 2019, regular participants gathered on the Bikalpa office for the regular formal Liberty Discussion. The discussion was titled in Article “There is no such thing called free Lunch”

In the discussion, participants exchanged insights on related issue topic. They talked about we need to understand there is Free lunch doesn’t exist, someone’s always paying for it. The government does not produce any money! That every penny that the government spends or distribute is from the taxpayer’s pocket. Also, every promise made by politician made during election campaign also doesn’t work. In an engaging conversation, they agreed on the point “Nobody spends somebody else’s money as carefully as he spends his own.” Because of everybody self-interest matters above yours. So, when the government spends public money they are not liable and responsible for spending it.

Concerns were also raised on private and public goods. Some argued that if a private venture fails, it’s closed down. If a government venture fails, it’s expanded because when a private decision maker makes a decision as according to incentives. In the same manner, the decision maker in the political or policy realm responds to the incentives while making political decisions. Hence, the politicians are no different than individuals responding to the incentives and pursuing their own self-interest. This is how political market work. So, there should be minimum government and maximum governance role.
