Liberty Discussion on “Socio-economic impact of Covid19”.

Liberty Discussion is a program designed to engage and inform the core members on the ideas of market economy and classical liberal ideas. Discussions are made on contemporary issues (local or national) through open market perspective. The article is selected and shared within the members to prepare oneself for the program. The program is organized at the venue of Bikalpa – an Alternative on every alternative Saturday (twice a month).

Due to the amid of Coronavirus lockdown Bikalpa an Alternative conduct Liberty discussion online in collaboration with Network For Free Society  on 18th April 2020 Saturday. The discussion was titled in Article “ Socio-economic impact of Covid19 ”.

The discussion was focused on the current impact of the crisis on the socioeconomics life of people triggered by the coronavirus. In an engaging discussion participants pointed out that as the coronavirus pandemic continues to wreak havoc on the global economy, businesses are ramping up their efforts to maintain continuity. Due to nationwide lockdown several multiple services such as travel, transport, tourism, retail, etc., have been halted temporarily. There is also a devastating effect on the poor and had damaged the nation’s long-run economic prospects. In the meantime, Concerns were also raised on the sustainability of the informal sector which plays a vital role in the economy of Nepal. Suggestions were also made that we will have to start opening businesses, allowing the private sector, especially the informal enterprises and small firms, to function taking all reasonable precautions to keep the virus contained. Likewise in the discussion, some shared government should be accountable to provide help to the poor in epidemic time. Ideas on a sustainable economic model to taking measures on reorienting the refinance facility for the business sector were also discussed.

There were 18 attendees present in the online discussion.
