Liberty Discussion is a program designed to engage and inform the core members on the ideas of market economy and classical liberal ideas. Discussions are made on contemporary issues (local or national) through open market perspective. The article is selected and shared within the members to prepare oneself for the program. The program is organized at the venue of Bikalpa – an Alternative on every alternative Saturday (twice a month).
Bikalpa an Alternative organized its Liberty Discussion Series in collaboration with Network for Free Society on the topic Political and Economic Freedom – Two Sides of the Same Coin’ on 05 September 2020. The discussion aims to provide insight into the sphere of socio-economic and political issues.
The discussion started off with interlinking between Political and Economic Freedom. On opening remarks Mr sarwagya shared in today’s context political freedom is shrinking although we are becoming economically free. Adding to it he said although democracy play’s crucial role in bringing economic freedom there is a kind of oligarchy market in a developed country. Taking forward other participant shreejan further added democratic Institution is a pillar for political and economic freedom. We still have a centrally planned economy system and there is still a political crisis. While other participants argued Economic freedom is proportional to many freedoms like political freedom, social freedom. Economic freedom covers many aspects. Also, economic freedom leads to social freedom. It is economic freedom that makes independent political action possible. Any country cannot achieve political freedom until and unless a country is economically free.
The discussion also touched upon both political and economic freedom are important for the development and freedom of people. It the political freedom that gives civic rights and liberties and economic freedom that allows flourishing for the human betterment of life and prosperity. Overall, the participants also shared their valid views on the topic. The session resulted in a fruitful and impassioned discussion.
