Liberty Discussion on “Corporate Social Responsibility”

Liberty Discussion is a program designed to engage and inform the core members on the ideas of market economy and classical liberal ideas. Discussions are made on the contemporary issues (local or national) through open market perspective. Article is selected and shared within the members to prepare oneself for the program. The program is organized at the venue of Bikalpa – an Alternative on every alternative Saturday (twice a month).

On this series date 31st March 2018 (17th Chaitra 2074), discussion was made on the Article of “Corporate Social Responsibility”, where 8 numbers of participant discuss their views. The program is organized to engage core members and new comers who are interested on the issue and ideas of liberty, public policy and political economy.

During the discussion, many of them narrated their thought regarding the Corporate Social Responsibility. It was a really interesting discussion among the participant though it was few in numbers. The discussion was forwarded along with the explanation of corporate social Responsibility theory. They talked about why corporate houses are responsible for the society. As it operates in society and so it is responsible for positive contribution to economic, environmental and social progress. While the concept of CSR is often associated with philanthropic funding. It is the activities that ‘give back’ to society. It is obligatory to society as it flourishes in social eco- system. The participants also discussed how the Indian companies who are respobile to give 2% of their net profit to charitable cause has cause in leading the change.  On the other hand, participant also figured though philanthropic funding is not always to tackle social issues.it doesn’t help to solve the socio-economic problem. Many companies are also using CSR as Public Relation tool to media to promote business. Overall, the participants shared their valid statements on CSR. The entire discussion proceeded comfortably.
