Liberty Discussion is a program designed to engage and inform the core members on the ideas of market economy and classical liberal ideas. Discussions are made on the contemporary issues (local or national) through open market perspective. Article is selected and shared within the members to prepare oneself for the program. The program is organized at the venue of Bikalpa – an Alternative on every alternative Saturday (twice a month).
On a sultry April afternoon, participant from different walk of life joined the regular discussion series of Bikalpa – an Alternative, this week the subject of discussion was “7 principles of sound public policy”. The invite for the event was widely circulated on social media. The event, held on April 21, where 15 numbers of participant gathered.
A discussion on “7 principles of sound public policy” was done in relation to know about the aspect of policy and create awareness among the participant about economic policy. While the discussion was welcomed, the discussion members put forth views regarding the Article.
The participants discussed how applying the principles from the article would affect the market, how it could contribute to open market operation, and help formulate good public policy. Also, participant discussed about how many old policies are affecting our economic growth. The participants also share examples from both developed and developing countries how good policies based on these principles has worked effectively. Overall, all out of seven principles 4 principles were scrutinized and discussed from different perspectives while other 3 were set to discuss on other discussion. It was agreed that government policies should not attempt to better any one group, should acknowledge long-run and short-run effects, and realize that government employees have in control what is effectively affects others. It is important to think about the long-term consequences of policy and should ensure it sustainability.
