Liberty Discussion on “Creating Job Vs Creating Wealth”

Liberty Discussion is a program designed to engage and inform the core members on the ideas of market economy and classical liberal ideas. Discussions are made on the contemporary issues (local or national) through open market perspective. Article is selected and shared within the members to prepare oneself for the program. The program is organized at the venue of Bikalpa – an Alternative on every alternative Saturday (twice a month).

On 18 August 2018, the members of Liberty Discussion Group sat down at Bikalpa office for Liberty Discussion. This week Liberty Discussion on “Wealth Creation vs Job Creation”. While talking about the last discussion session. It started with the question of what is wealth, who creates Job and what role does it play in the economy? The participant also discussed how social capital and economic clout play an important role in accessing employment opportunity for the individuals.  Similarly, the participant expressed in everyday life to create a Job there is a necessity for wealth creation. We do need to focus on Wealth creation. If people have enough wealth then they would spend it on the market which would help in sustaining the economy. Further adding to it, in another hand, when wealth goes in the hand of the government then there would not be a positive and durable impact in the lives of people.

Some of the other participants articulated on issues that inadequacies of our education system, lack of employment opportunities, development approach of our government, poor governance system. Adding to it some said there is a limited resource and the wealth is in hand of a few people. So there is an imbalance and inequality in the society. The vast majority of people of people don’t have wealth.

Nevertheless, one of the two respondents differed in their opinion they raised the question of creating a job through protecting the local market from the foreign market. A government should be responsible for it. Contrary to His statement other participants argued that instead of protecting the market it is important to focus on finding the comparative advantage for business survival. The competitive market will create the win-win situation for both the actors in Market. There were 12 participants and the program was ended at 5: 15 pm.
