Liberty Discussion on “Are Markets Efficient or Do They Tend Towards Monopoly”

Liberty Discussion is a program designed to engage and inform the core members on the ideas of market economy and classical liberal ideas. Discussions are made on the contemporary issues (local or national) through open market perspective. Article is selected and shared within the members to prepare oneself for the program. The program is organized at the venue of Graduate Coach Biratnagar on every alternative Saturday (twice a month).

On February 17, 2018 the participants of Liberty Discussion Group sat down at Graduate Coach discuss whether markets were efficient or do they tend to monopoly. The discussion was on “Are Markets Efficient or do They Tend Towards Monopoly“.

The discussion started with participant articulating about, since after democracy Nepal is trending toward the Market economy but yet had not been able to see high growth. The members claimed that due to lack of rule of law, contract enforcement, limited role of government and transparency in country is the causing proper functioning of the Market. The discussion took other side arguing that Multinational Company will take away the resources and manpower and will create monopoly power in the market because other competitors cannot match its cost, quality, brand loyalty, among others. With regard to it, some participants argued that Monopoly is not created by the collusion of Government and private player. Market is distorted when due to crony system. These were the few take way from the discussion. The program is jointly organized in association with Network For A Free Society & Graduate Coach
