Friday Discussion is a program designed to engage and inform the core members on the ideas of free market economy and classical liberal ideas. Discussions are made on the contemporary issues (local or national) based on free market perspective. Article is selected and shared within the members to prepare oneself for the program. The program is organized at the venue of Hotel Namaskar, Biratnagar on every alternative Friday (twice a month).
On this 43rd series, discussion was based on the Article of “Why Africa Became Poor”, where 15 numbers of participants took part to discuss on the topic. The discussion began with the attendees floating on the issues of Article. It was hot and live discussion where participants discussed.
During the discussion Participants raised their different opinion regarding the Article. One of the attendee shared that Africa is not poor because there are lot of natural resourses. Due to foreign invasion and its effect in the case of politics were also discussed. Adding to that In Africa there are many Tribal group in Africa and they have their own culture so due to this they want live isolated. After they articulated their views the discussion began based on the agreements or disagreements on the views. Many expressed their dissent in a contrary opinion Some argued that all the African countries are not poor. Those countries that do not have their secured property rights they are poor. Due to which extractive government policy is endowing their natural resources.
On the Second half of the Discussion some put their view forth on it’s not political instability that hinders in economic growth but it’s economic growth that causes political instability. Also in our developing countries like where there is lack of Rule of law the Policy doesn’t affect the Upper and Lower Class people. It’s the middle class people who are affected by policy.
The program was held on 13th May 2016 from 4:00 pm onward. Discussion was helpful to know about the basic aspects on why Africa is forced to remain poor?
