Friday Discussion on Sound Economic Policies

Friday Discussion is a program designed to engage and inform the core members on the ideas of free market economy and classical liberal ideas. Discussions are made on the contemporary issues (local or national) through free market perspective. The Article is selected and shared within the members to prepare oneself for the program. The program is organized at the venue of Hotel Namaskar, Biratnagar on every alternative Friday (twice a month).

On this series the Article of “Sound Economic Policies” was discussed, where 16 numbers of participants took part to discuss their views. The program is organized to engage core members and newcomers who are interested in the issue and ideas of liberty, public policy and political economy.It was hot and live discussion where participants discussed on Sound Economic Policies.

As we know Economic policy is pertinent factor to achieve the zenith of development.An economic policy is a course of action that is intended to influence or control the behavior of the economy. Economic Policies are typically implemented and administered by the government. In this series, our main discussion was focused on 3 topics.7 principles of Sound economic policy, How to achieve Absolute poverty, the broken window. During the discussion the participants articulated their opinion regarding the economic policy. Most of our Argument was based on Role of government in Market economy. The participant had notion that free market policy is not suited to our country. They were showing their bare dislike to capitalism. On contrary to that some argued that when government intervenes in the economy (even with good intentions) it usually results in unintended consequences. The intervening and expansive government is disastrous for an economy and civic liberties. Problems that seem quite related to policy on the surface often have government policy as their root cause. So, the government should legitimate the good economic policy so that every citizen could live their dignified life.

The program was held on 3 July from 4:45 pm onward. The discussion was very helpful to understand the sound economic policies and its benefits for the developing countries like Nepal. Program was ended in 7:45 pm
