Friday Discussion is a program designed to engage and inform the core members on the ideas of free market economy and classical liberal ideas. Discussions are made on the contemporary issues (local or national) through free market perspective. Article is selected and shared within the members to prepare oneself for the program. The program is organized at the venue of Hotel Namaskar, Biratnagar on every alternative Friday (twice a month).
On this series, discussion was made on the Article of “The Social Dimension of Liberal Policy”, where 9 numbers of part to discuss their views. The program is organized to engage core members and new comers who are interested on the issue and ideas of liberty, public policy and political economy. It was hot and live discussion where participants discussed on “The Social Dimension of Liberal Policy” topic.
Discussions ranged from different prospect from political thought to economic progress of the country. As the social dimension of liberal policy is inherently Social because it is emphasizing efficiency, competition, and economic progress within the framework of a market economy where the power of the state is limited to an indispensable minimum. Some of the participant avowedly ignored the dimension of the liberal policy. They argued that discussing from situation of Nepal it is not pragmatic. They also shared to Government economic planning policy is important to encourage the citizen for raising their living standard. Arguing on it some participant said that there is no society there is only individual and each knows what is better for them. Individual should be left free for their creativity and innovation. For the economic progress of the country government should work as facilitator in the market economy.
The whole discussion also made us re-think about nature of our society. We are culturally programmed in collectivism nature of the society. Our society is rigidly collective in nature and all the economic and social sphere of the citizen has always been controlled by the state. So this article helps to understand the social dimension of liberal policy in economic and social in society.
The program was held on the January 22 2016/8 Magh, from 4:30 pm onward. Discussion was helpful to know about the fact that politicians and government officials are self-interested is harmful to us. Discussion Program was ended in 6:00pm
